Edit first post

So... With this I can only edit my last post if the post is the last of the topic is that it?

Or I can only edit my last post even if it's not the last of the topic?

And if I'm the topic poster will I be able to always edit the 1st post? Plus the last message? (All messages after first till the last one can't be edited) ?

Yes, because if it's the last post in a topic, it will be unanswered.
Or I can only edit my last post even if it's not the last of the topic?
No, it has to be the last, unanswered post.

This is to prevent posters to edit their posts AFTER they have been replied to.

No, only your last post provided there has been no reply to it.

I like the idea of "prevent posters to edit their posts AFTER they have been replied to." but the 1st post should be ignored on this (or have an option for it maybe). At least for me it doesnt make sense to not be able to edit the 1st post.
Thanks for the explanation.

Hola Tarantino,
but the 1st post should be ignored on this
No, I don't think it should!

My experience with other boards is that it is VERY dangerous to permit the original poster to edit their very first post as it can create a lot of confusion and, worse, anger/fights.

Imagine a topic whereby the original poster wishes to write about the employment prospects in Kasimia (that's a country ;) ).

The original poster publishes their statistics and even offers of jobs in Kasimia. Many users comment on these statistics and offers of jobs. Then, the original poster suddenly realises that these statistics are wrong. Instead of updating these statistics in a subsequent message, the original poster decides to edit their first post.

Immediately, this means that all subsequent posts from users become irrelevant because they commented on statistics that have been altered.

And, of course, this applies to any topic! Imagine a topic named "10 good reasons why I would like to live in Kasimia". Subsequent posters comment on these 10 good reasons. Then the original poster decides to edit their original messages to "10 good reasons why I would not like to live in Kasimia". The thread and the other posters's comments thus suddenly become totally useless.

If the original poster wishes to modify their first post after replied have been posted, this should be done using a reply (new message) and not by editing their first message. It will thus preserve the logic of all the comments that have already been posted.

Well I guess each case is a case. In my case and in many scenarios. Basically all fóruns I have created. The poster needs to edit the 1st message adding more information time to time. I understood what you said. But each fórum is a fórum. And beleive that there are many scenarios where is needed to edit first topic. So it should have an on/off switch for that. So each of us can choose the behavior we want.
Even this forum. Kasimi needa to edit 1st topic to add a New version of the extension each time a new release is made. See... Many scenarios. :p

Hola Tarentino,

I do agree with you! There are indeed several instances where the first message needs to be edited. In that case, you can always switch off this extension for a particular group (Admins, Mods, etc.) and I also assume you can also do this for specific users (if you trust them!).

I dont want to disable for a specific group. I want this extension to work for all groups. But it would be great if it had an option were we could do an exception for the 1st message. That way I could Activate via ACP the exception and you could still use as you wish since by default it dont come with the exception activated.
And I beleive this is not that hard to add.
And for you, having or not having it will be the same since it doesnt change anything. Plus it will make a lot of more people happy. ;)

I moved your discussion to a separate topic.

It's an interesting and valid point that Tarantino raised regarding editing the first post. There are certainly scenarios where this is needed so I think it's worth adding to this extension. There needs to be a way for the admin to configure it. At the moment I can't think of a solution other than a second forum permission. Any suggestions?

PS Kasimia sounds like a nice place, can you tell me how to get there? :D

Well, I'm not going to complain!

The more options an extension has, the better and richer it will be!
