Random numbers posted after some users post

#1

phpBB 3.2.1
Mchat 2.0.1 - Refresh 60 Seconds

We have a couple of members who when they post a message in the chat just after another post is made with their name containing a random number or numbers. Usually just a single digit or sometimes three digits, this appears to come around one minute after the post. (45 - 65 Seconds)
On one occasion the post with the random number appeared directly after the member logged in.

Anybody got any ideas on what may be causing this.

First time I'm hearing this, funny bug. :D Do you have any add-on extensions installed? Did you modify any mChat files?

Yes and yes.
However, so far this has only affected two users out of hundreds so I don't think it is Extension or Code related at the moment.

One of them changed the device he was using and got no problems, still trying to contact the other one for more information to see if they have anything in common.
With the problem - Windows 2000 Pro, Firefox 8.0.1, Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.0; rv:8.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/8.0.1
Without - Windows 7, Opera 50.0 No User Agent given.

It is certainly a strange one and probably nothing to do with the chat itself.

Windows 2000 Pro, Firefox 8.0.1
This would almost certainly be causing the issue. Tell them to use a recent OS and browser and their problems are gone.

Turns out that the other member with the same issue was using Windoze 7 and FF 12.0
So it would seem that the Browser is the culprit here.
Backward Compatibility can only reach so far back before things will not work as advertised.

I found what's causing this specifically: https://developer.mozilla.org/de/docs/W ... etInterval
Prior to Gecko 13 (Firefox 13.0 / Thunderbird 13.0 / SeaMonkey 2.10), Gecko passed an extra parameter to the callback routine, indicating the "actual lateness" of the timeout in milliseconds. This non-standard parameter is no longer provided.
That extra parameter is what these users sent as messages. Tell them to use Firefox 13 or later. :)

Thank you so much for that.
It is always good to know exactly what the cause was.
