Server port 443 oddness

#1

Post by nou nou » 17 May 2019, 05:47

Hi kasimi,

I stumbled onto something odd while I was testing different server settings in phpBB

Turns out that if you set Force server URL settings to "yes" in phpBB's Server Configuration, and Server protocol to https:// and Server port to 443, mChat rooms lose the ability to display images including avatars and smileys.

This settings cause no issues in the forum itself, nor mChat "standard". Only mChat rooms display this behaviour... The Server port set to 80 doesn't cause any such issue.

Any idea as to why this may be?

I can't reproduce this. These are my current server settings:

Oh interesting. It's those server settings in combination with "Cookie secure" disabled (I realise that's an odd setting - I'm testing some specific user's issues...).

Cookie secure disabled on an https board? I would imagine this would cause more problems than it solves. :?

Possibly, though I haven't found any besides this. I'm now trying to understand what causes the images to not appear. It's not something major if it doesn't get solved, but the fact that it only happens in mChat Rooms makes me wonder.

By the way, if you set the server port to 80 instead, the images work again (with https and disabled cookie secure).

As I said, I realise it's odd, but bear with me... :)

I'm still not sure why you need to use port 80. To me that sounds like your server is not correctly configured, and you're trying to make phpBB work around the real issue.

Anyway, what's the URL of a broken image, and what would be the correct URL?
